BRANDING, PACKAGING, APP, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Woohoo, Beer! is a personal business idea of mine for a visionary co-op that markets and distributes homebrewers’ craft beers.
As a craft beer lover, this idea came to me during a time of a craft beer boom. The national number of microbreweries tripled in less than two years. Nashville alone sprouted 8 new breweries during this timeframe.
I mixed and mingled with brewmasters of big labels as well as local homebrewers from Home Brewers associations and clubs to validate my idea. I even served as an official Steward at the TN State Fair HomeBrewers Competition.
Tapping these resources helped me gain in-depth knowledge about the industry and craft of beer. I learned that the homebrewing community is very communal, serious about their craft, beer enthusiasts, and 90% of them strongly desire to take their small operation to full scale one day. This further validated the market demand of my product.
Overall, I was receiving high levels of interest and a resounding YES from both questions I asked: “Do you think this is a viable business idea? Would you participate as a homebrewer?”
I further focused on the user, community aspect, and crossed that over with an operations lens to create an app.
Goals: optimize the submission process, streamline communication, provide a showcase of beers, and provide a platform for community engagement.
This was circa 2012, when skeuomorphism was the leading UI strategy and the highest grade of mobile devices was the iPhone 5 🙂
